POP Tip: Super Quick Face Brightening

25 Jan

Ever looked into the mirror at 2pm and felt a wave of shock and horror ripple through you? I know I have. My concealer has usually evaporated into thin air and my nose has started to resemble Rudolph’s. However, here’s a nifty 60 second trick to instantly brighten and revitalise your make up and face.

There are five area’s on your face that concealer will help to make look a whole lot better.

1. The inner corner of your eyes.

2. Outer corner of your eyes.

3. Around your nose, on either side of your nostrils.

4. Under your mouth in the slight hollow.

5. Either side of your mouth where your laugh lines are.

Just dab a little concealer, preferably a brightening one, on each of these areas, blend it in and poof! Instantly refreshed looking!

Bliss Spa Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask Review

24 Jan

Hailing from New York, Bliss Spa comes with its own cult following. With product names such as Fat Girl Slim, Peeling Groovy and Thinny Thin Chin how could I resist? Simple packaging, easy to use instructions and product names that scream out what they do have helped to lure me in.

Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask. Now there is a product name worth handing over 85 shmakaroos for. Or so I thought. Admittedly, I love it. It does everything it claims to and leaves my skin so ridiculously radiant and energized I could be mistaken for Lea Michelle. Using a complexion-brightening formula, plus vitamin C and antioxidants, the energising mask does actually completely energize and revitalise my skin. The mask has a zingy citrus scent, which helps to make me feel refreshed. I love anything citrus scented!

It comes in a cylindrical pump dispenser bottle that pumps out a silky gel like texture that transforms into fun little bubbles that tingle, froth and pop once massaged into the skin. So much fun!!

What the website says:
A super quick fix for dull, tired and sallow, ‘I’m sick of my skin’ skin. Engineered to mimic the effects of our spa’s famous Triple Oxygen Treatment Facial in seconds. This fabulous complexion brightening formula uses every ‘tech’ in the book to give you fresher, younger-looking skin.

•delivers oxygen to the skin with innovative Fluid02 technology
•brightens, lightens, and tightens the skin with the most active powerful form of Vitamin C available
•protects cells from free radical damage with powerful antioxidants

Guess what? Since 1996, Bliss Spas have given over 75,000 Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Treatment facials!

  • Instantly energises and is actually a “super quick fix”
  • Immediate results and fun to use!
  • Leaves my skin looking extra radiant
  • Skin feels smoother for about an hour after using

  • The radiant and smoothing effect didn’t last very long, was very temporary. Max 3 hours.
  • Very $$$
  • Bliss says to leave on for 5 minutes however I found the bubbles didn’t last that long, only about 3 minutes.
  • I’m a bit sceptical about a products that claims to deliver liquified oxygen into your skin. Really? Does it really work…? My skin didn’t feel particularly hydrated afterwards…

Was it worth it? I think so. If you can afford to hand over $85 for a bottle that’ll last you about a year, then I’d definitely recommend it. I use mine about once a week or just whenever I find my skin needs a little kick up it’s rear end. Coupled with the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm afterwards I am literally GLOWING!! The great thing about this mask too is that it’s so quick and easy to use. If you don’t have time to sit down for a full blown facial or a 30 minute face mask, this 5 minute action packed pumper will whack some life into your skin stat.

Overall rating? 8/10

Price: $85 for 100mL

Illamasqua Launch

19 Jan

Wow, someone’s late to the party. Someone being me. Better late than never, eh?

Two months ago, one of my fav beauty brands, Illamasqua hosted a beauty blogger event at their brand spakin’ new counter in Myer Melbourne and my-oh-my are they the brand to watch, play and paint with! The sheer multitude of their product line coupled with their amazing formulas and colours leave me with the impression that they are out to take over the beauty world. And take over they will!

Don't you just want to play??

Wall of Make-Up. I want.

“Illamasqua is about more than Make-Up. Illamasqua is for the bolder person hiding inside all of us. It is an act and an attitude. A symbol of tolerance. A celebration of idiosyncrasies. A confident statement of self-ownership.”

With the tag line “Make-Up for your alter ego”, Illamasqua is all about experimenting and exploring just what you can do when given the freedom to.

What I loved about this particular event is that every one of us buzzing beauty bloggers had the chance to be “transformed” by some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable make-up artists I’ve ever come across. Their eyeshadow formula’s were silky soft, pigments were outrageous, nail polish glided on like a dream and their false eyelashes! Oh!! Don’t get me started on those!! Shu who??

My make over done by Peter who had an insane blue eye shadow on. I want!

Mel from ampersandmel. Check out her stunning eyes!

A huge thank you to the amazing Christabel Draffin for organising this event and all the staff on the Myer Melbourne counter for being so informative and accommodating to all us overexcited beauty bloggers. I trust this will not be the last we see and hear from Illamasqua!

Lilpil (Amy) and Val after their transformations!

Hannah, me and Jess. Taaa daaaa!!

I love it. What else would you expect from a brand born from the dark and illicit 1920s club scene of Berlin?

POP Tip: Humidity Ruining Your Face?

17 Jan

Frizzy hair, blotchy cheeks, lipstick running down past your chin. Sounds all too familiar don’t it? Summer is hatin’ on our faces and don’t we know it.  Luckily there are some winner products out there to help keep you looking as fresh as a new illuminator.

Invest in a primer. Any primer. I hate to be repetitive peeps but prime! Prime! Prime!  Primer will not only help to smooth out any fine lines, enlarged pores, and even in some cases, even out redness and skin tone, but will also prevent your make-up from slippin’ and slidin’ around and your face from eating all your make-up. If this isn’t some kind of miracle product, I don’t know what is. One that I love is the Laura Mercier Primer however another cheapie that I found which will essentially do the same thing for a fraction of the cost is the Australis Primer.

Tinted moisturiser or a water-based foundation such as Model Co’s Fluidsplash 3 in 1 Foundation will be your new best friend. In hot and humid weather the last thing you want to do is be slapping on thick and creamy foundations. A light base is all you want and if you do need a bit more coverage, pop on a bit of concealer then set it all with a light dusting of powder.  Less is more folks, less is more.

Model Co Beauty Fix Airbrush Face. Need I say more? This wonder product is literally like hair spray for your face. But not quite as sticky or smelly or strong or well, you get it. Beauty Fix sprays onto the face in a fine mist, which will set and leave your skin with a luminous finish. Viola! Face. Set. Match!

Last but not least, if you are enthusiastically embracing the bright lip or orange lip trend be sure to prep and prime you lips beforehand to avoid clown like lips. Using an invisible lip liner, line around the outside of your lips before filling in the lips with the same or similar shade liner as the lipstick you’ll be wearing. Lightly dot on the lippie until desired coverage. For extra staying power, dust over with a little translucent powder for a matte finish.

Now go rock it!

Really late Halloween make up look post!

12 Nov

So let me backtrack a little bit. On Thursday 28/10, I was told that I would be going to a dress up Halloween Party in Sydney. “Yessssss”, I thought, “I LOVVEEE dressing up!!” I am after all, a bit of a show off when it comes to stuff like this. I think it’s because I have a chance to let my inner freak fly when I usually have to keep it confined to my lips and nails. Who am I kidding, I always let my freak flag fly. Own it girls!!

I'm normal.

Anyway, so long story short. I panicked because I had nothing to wear, no idea what to wear or where to find whatever it is that I would be wearing. So because I’m a bit of a glitter slut and had nothing to wear, I decided just to chuck on my maxi dress, wear heaps of gold jewellery and make myself up like I had been dipped in gold. Or rolled around in a bucket of glitter…either way.

The end result? Ta-daaaaa!

(This is a little more than a little embarrassing. I hate putting photo’s of myself up but thought I’d better get used to it if I want to show future make up ‘looks’!)

Yes, I am taking the pre-req bathroom shot of myself. No shame haha

EN-EE-WAIIIZZZ, this is what I used to create this not-very-Halloweeny-more-like-I-have-a-glitter-fetish look.

BASE: My usual prodz, as detailed here (up to and including mascara).

1. Benefit “Stay don’t Stray” eyeshadow primer all over up to brow bone.
2. Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Colour in “Gold” all over eye lid blended up past the crease, as a base.
3. Bare Minerals Glimmer Eyeshadow pigment in “True Gold” applied with a damp fluffy eyeshadow brush to the centre of my eyelid, just above the pupils. Pack it on and slightly fade it out to the sides.
4. Benefit powder Eyeshadow in “Hey Bellboy!” (discontinued) packed on from the inner ‘v’ to the edge of the gold and from the other edge of the gold to the outer corners of your socket. Blend the gold and plum together slightly with a clean brush with a golden copper eyeshadow. I then used a plummy purple eyeshadow from a Guerlain eyeshadow quad “Violette Du Soir” #461 in my eye socket (or what I like to call, the banana -for the obvious shape reasons lol) just to add some depth and definition. You can use any purple plum colour you like or leave this step out altogether.
5. Popped my fake lashes on (I stuck two Ardell ones together, one on top of the other, that I bought from Priceline cos couldn’t find the ones I wanted) and finished off with a swipe of MAC “Rapidblack” Penultimate Liquid Eyeliner.
6. Applied Benefit BadGal Black waterproof eyeliner all along the bottom lash line and on the waterline. Set it with some Hey Bellboy! eyeshadow and highlighter the inner ‘v’ with the “True Gold” pigment.

7. To get the glitter to stick, I used my eyelash glue as the well, glue and applied it randomly with my finger then using the good old fashioned way of when I was in kindergarten, stuck my fingers into the glitter and pretty much whacked it on my face. Viola! Perfecto!

8. Oh and last but not least, I used the Bare Minerals “True Gold” pigment as a highlighter on my brow bone and cheekbones, applied with a stripple brush so it didn’t look like I’d gone toooo nuts, even though I did.

HO-KAY! Well, I don’t know if any of the above make ANY sense whatsoever, but hey! I hope you got the general gist of it. I think I may just make a Youtube video next time. I’m so bad at explaining things!

What did you guys think? Yay? Nay?

Please stop rambling?
