POP Nail It! China Glaze Crackle Glaze Collection

17 Feb

Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. I’ve just managed to get my mitts on the O.P.I Black Shatter Polish, have a never ending list of polishes I want from other lines and now I find out that China Glaze have come out with a Crackle Glaze Collection for Spring 2011. The collection will include six new nail colors with crackle effect.

An innovative technology allows you to play with a wide array of color combinations and achieve an edgy, new wave look. This unique formula was developed to give your nails a “crackled” design over traditional nail color. Contrasting colors are used one over another to achieve a deconstructed shatter look that takes place right before your eyes. Instant art for your nails!

Uh, make a statement? You bet it does!

The collection comes with these six crackle colours:

  • Lightning Bolt – White Crackle
  • Black Mesh – Black Crackle
  • Broken Hearted – Pink Crackle
  • Cracked Concrete – Grey Crackle
  • Fault Line – Purple Crackle
  • Crushed Candy – Teal Crackle

Say whaaat? Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Did someone just say that China Glaze has just totally kicked O.P.I’s ass and upped their Black Shatter big time?! Wow, great minds must think alike then ;P

To top it off, China Glaze is free of DBP, toluene, and added formaldehyde. Win!

Which one’s do you want?

One of them? All of them?

POP Nailing It! Moon Mani

3 Nov

Apologies for the dodge photo quality, this was taken with my phone camera which I dug up from the archives since I’m in Sydney and don’t have any nail polishes to swatch and review!

Before cleaning up the cuticles and edges.

This was my first attempt at doing the moon manicure and I must say I quite liked it! It was different, fun and awesome to look at.

I used two Bloom nail polishes in Zooey and Josephine.

Zooey, a metallic glittery silver. Awesome!

Josephine, a deep opalescent purple.

I started off by doing the usual clipping, filing and base coat. You know the drill. Then started off by popping two coats of Josephine on the whole nail bed. I found one coat wasn’t enough as it still looked quite opaque and I wanted a strong, metallic finish. Oh and quick tip, I know this might sound ridiculous but don’t worry about painting on the cuticles, because once you wash your hands or have a shower, any stray nail polish should just flake off revealing perfectly painted nails!

Then the fun begins. Using a fine point eyeliner brush, dip it into a glob of Zooey and carefully paint on a semi circle where your natural moon would be. I did one nail at a time.

Then taking the nail polish applicator/brush, ‘colour in’ the rest of your nail with Zooey by painting it as per normal taking care to remain outside of your drawn on semi circle. Don’t worry too much about keeping it neat and on the nails (refer to above tip).

Let it dry then go over it with a top coat. I love Essie ‘good to go!

And there you have it. An easy way to give the moon mani a go without the need for pro manicurist skills. Have fun!!

Take a snap and show me if you have a go, I’d love to see your version!

POP Nailing It!

Continuing on with my recent new found appreciation for all shades of peach, I am now currently in love with and staring at my nail polish as I type. Tart Deco, from Essie “The Art of Spring” 2010 collection, is the perfect shade of neon peachy/orange. Here, I’ll let you have a little perve…

From left to right: Lilacism, Neo Whimsical, Pop Art Pink, Nouveau Red, Tart Deco, Van D'Goh

Aren’t they pretty? Tart Deco is so much fun! It’s very summery and the burst of colour is so refreshing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another nail colour like it. In the bottle it looks like a nice soft, pastel orange, but once applied it goes on almost neon and in different lighting it can range from a pop of peachy orange to a soft shade of peach. I love it!

Without flash. Excuse the blurring, I was too excited.

It’s really pigmented but very thick so two coats were needed. The only gripe I have with Tart Deco is that because it is so thick, it is very streaky once applied. The first coat went on looking horrendous, second coat much better. Then the magic happens. When I added a top coat the neon like colour came out to play!

With flash...I really gotta work on my photo taking skillz

This beautiful colour gives a nice creamy finish and would suit anyone. What are you waiting for? Go out and buy it!

Price: $18.95
