POP Tip: Humidity Ruining Your Face?

17 Jan

Frizzy hair, blotchy cheeks, lipstick running down past your chin. Sounds all too familiar don’t it? Summer is hatin’ on our faces and don’t we know it.  Luckily there are some winner products out there to help keep you looking as fresh as a new illuminator.

Invest in a primer. Any primer. I hate to be repetitive peeps but prime! Prime! Prime!  Primer will not only help to smooth out any fine lines, enlarged pores, and even in some cases, even out redness and skin tone, but will also prevent your make-up from slippin’ and slidin’ around and your face from eating all your make-up. If this isn’t some kind of miracle product, I don’t know what is. One that I love is the Laura Mercier Primer however another cheapie that I found which will essentially do the same thing for a fraction of the cost is the Australis Primer.

Tinted moisturiser or a water-based foundation such as Model Co’s Fluidsplash 3 in 1 Foundation will be your new best friend. In hot and humid weather the last thing you want to do is be slapping on thick and creamy foundations. A light base is all you want and if you do need a bit more coverage, pop on a bit of concealer then set it all with a light dusting of powder.  Less is more folks, less is more.

Model Co Beauty Fix Airbrush Face. Need I say more? This wonder product is literally like hair spray for your face. But not quite as sticky or smelly or strong or well, you get it. Beauty Fix sprays onto the face in a fine mist, which will set and leave your skin with a luminous finish. Viola! Face. Set. Match!

Last but not least, if you are enthusiastically embracing the bright lip or orange lip trend be sure to prep and prime you lips beforehand to avoid clown like lips. Using an invisible lip liner, line around the outside of your lips before filling in the lips with the same or similar shade liner as the lipstick you’ll be wearing. Lightly dot on the lippie until desired coverage. For extra staying power, dust over with a little translucent powder for a matte finish.

Now go rock it!

The result of recent workout

20 Oct

I’ve been working out quite a bit recently. Lots of stretching, cardio and lunging. Well maybe not me, but my debit card. Hey, at least one of us are getting some exercise right? (Yes, I refer to my card as a person…so what?) So what muscles have I amassed?

Model Co Eye Shade Trio in #05 Island Fever, $39

Model Co Satin Lip Couture Lipstick in Coral, $28

Model Co Gel Eyeliner with built in brush, $32

Bloom Limited Edition cosmetics purse, $9.95

Laura Mercier Moisturising Foundation in Sunny Beige, $80

Yes, I did go a little nuts at Model Co but only because their products are amazing, very reasonably priced and there was a gift with purchase. Win!

I also bought three really pretty rings from Sportsgirl and a lace cream skirt from General Pants and Co. which was reduced down from $80 to $40 with an extra 20% off so $32. Double Win! The skirt looks just like the one Alexa Chung was wearing to the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party.

Hey Alexa! I'd like my skirt back thanks.

How awesome are they?! Ps, my nail polish is Tart Deco by Essie.

Is there anything here you’d like me to review or do a separate post on? Any questions? Anyone want to deliver me some salted caramel macarons?

Peachy love for the 70’s!

So I’m a little late to the peach party but I’ve just found the perfect peach coloured lipstick! Behold the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick SPF 15 in Peach Passion #13.

Haaayyyyy!

Look at the beautiful casing! It simply screams elegance, luxury and hold me. Well, maybe not screams, that’s un-lady like, maybe gives a gentle nod to? I don’t know. I don’t do “lady” well.

Anyway, I digress. This lush lover  comes in 18 shades and is described on the YSL website as a “lipstick which combines pleasure of the senses, bright colours and total comfort. Both light yet rich, its creamy texture becomes fluid on contact with the lips for a pleasant feeling and incredible smooth-on qualities.” Spot on. It smells yummy like mangoes, feels amazingly moisturising on, keeps my lips soft and looks incredible on.

#13 Peach Passion

Not too sure why it looks pinkish in the pic but I swear it’s not that pink…? It also has a tiny mirror on top of the lid. It’s quite small but big enough for touch ups. The colour payoff is quite strong and you don’t need to swipe it over and over again to get a full coverage. As you can see from the pic above, it is also very glossy. I’m in love! (I think we’ve already established my obsession with lip gloss) This might be the creamiest lipstick I’ve ever tried.

Perfectly on trend with the 70’s make up looks we’ve seen from all the Spring Summer 2011 shows, a peach lip will give you that “cool girl” laid back vibe without the fierceness of a punchy orange lip.

Peachy Perfection seen at Gottex Spring/Summer 2011, New York

Paired with a light wash of bronzer under the cheekbones, dusted lightly across your forehead, nose and chin, you’ll be good to go!!
